Description:
The Fourth Annual Conference of the Measurement and Evaluation Scientific Association (MESA), held under the patronage of the President of Ain Shams University and the Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities as part of the 14th Ain Shams International Conference, is themed "Multi-dimensional Assessment: Beyond Grades and Scores." The conference brings together academics, clinicians, educational technologists, policymakers, and EdTech innovators from across Egypt and the Arab world.
The programme spans two scientific sessions, three panel discussions, and an invited keynote address. Session 1 examines the implications of assessment systems on student wellbeing and mental health, addressing the tension between grades and genuine learning growth — while Session 2 focuses on reframing assessment in medical education through programmatic assessment — including community-based approaches, electronic progress tracking, and virtual reality.
The panel discussions address the broader landscape of modern assessment: the first explores programmatic assessment from a systems perspective with international panelists; the second examines the intersection of technology, quality, and outcome-based education (OBE); and the third presents the practical experience of the Faculty of Women for Arts, Science and Education, Ain Shams University in deploying technological innovations for electronic grading.
The invited keynote by the Deputy Director of the Supreme Council of Universities' Electronic and Knowledge Services Centre addresses the governance, institutional architecture, and digital transformation dimensions of secure electronic examination systems and academic integrity — a timely focus given Egypt's national drive toward university digital transformation.
The conference seeks to align Egyptian and Arab higher education assessment practices with Egypt's Vision 2030 by promoting assessment models that recognise skills, competencies, creativity, and personal growth alongside academic achievement, and by fostering collaboration among universities, professional associations, and the private sector in building fairer and more effective evaluation systems.
